Cape Town Season Opener – Carl Ferreira – RRD

Carl Ferreira & Craig Howes open the kitesurfing season in Cape Town for another one to remember – tribute to Graham Howes.

 

Graham Howes was an iconic figure in South African kitesurfing, often referred to as the “unofficial mayor of kitesurfing” in Cape Town. Sadly, he passed away on September 7, 2025, at the age of 38, in an extremely rare accident: he was struck by a whale while kitesurfing off Bloubergstrand. Investigations and autopsies confirmed that the impact, with exceptional force, was fatal. Graham Howes was also the founder of the Dirty Habits brand and a highly respected personality in the extreme sports community.
